Home About Custom Jewelry
In the beginning, costume jewelry was created to look like the real thing as worn by the rich.. Imitation jewelry was looked down upon and considered low class. In the 1920s and 30s designers Chanel and Schiaparelli made costume jewelry that was widely accepted by the upper class. However, the item was considered a fad and was thrown away whenever a new style was created. In the 1950s costume jewelry became "hot" and was considered a necessary adornment to the wardrobe. In the 1970s again became unfashionable until 1980s it was rediscovered as an art form and continues to be appreciated by many.
Why do we collect these work of art,
brilliant, beautiful and collectible
costume jewelry? I can only say that once upon a time we were able to buy
jewelry from garage sales, flea markets jumbled up in cigar boxes and sold for a
mere $1.00 a box. But who would of known that just a few years later, costume
jewelry would be so sought after? Once the junk that grandma wore is now a
collectible fashion is becoming more and more scarce to find at a good deal..
